In this fourth installment of "Would That You Were Mine," Catelyn Stark is confined to her chambers after the difficult birth of her fourth child, awaiting her husband's return to Winterfell after he'd gone to be with his mistress for the birth of his bastard. When Brandon finally does return, he does not bring tidings she wishes to hear, and she fears that all of them--the man she is wed to, the man she loves, and all of their children--are doomed to punishment for her own sins.

Summary
Half a year has passed since Catelyn nearly died giving birth to Bran while Brandon returned to Winterfell with his bastard son after the death of his mistress. During that time Ned, Catelyn, and Brandon have all tried to move forward as best they can while holding on to their various secrets, fears, anger, and hurts.
This fifth installment in the "Would That You Were Mine" series is told from Ned's POV as he begins to wonder how many betrayals anyone can both commit and suffer without becoming irrevocably broken.

Summary
More than half a year has passed since the events of "Broken." Ned left Winterfell for King's Landing once more, Brandon has worked at consolidating the support of his bannermen in the wake of his bastard's birth and Barbrey's death, and Catelyn has endeavored to be a dutiful wife and Lady of Winterfell although she still misses Ned desperately.
Now, for unclear reasons, King Robert Baratheon, accompanied by Ned, is coming to Winterfell. Catelyn worries about what the king might want and is filled with both anticipation and dread at seeing Ned again. The royal visit proves to be fraught with multiple potential dangers for Brandon, Catelyn, Ned, and all their children. Catelyn has always feared there would be a price to be paid for Brandon's sins and her own. But how high will the cost be? And who will pay it?
