*SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI*
“All I was looking for was a place to belong,” she sniffled, “a family of my own.”
His voice was strangled. “You can’t find that with me?”
“Ben--”
“It’s not too late,” he frantically whispered, taunting, full lips brushing over the shell of her ear. “Please.”

Summary
Sometimes his fingertips would tingle with the ghost of her touch, a cruel reminder of what he had been shown--everything. It had seemed only natural to offer her everything in turn. Rey hadn’t just turned away from ruling at his side, she had rejected him. He had misinterpreted her, had allowed himself to be consumed with foolish, shattering emotion and now he had only himself to blame.
It shouldn’t have stung as much as it did, even now. He should have been used to people turning their backs on him. Stupidly, he had let himself hope.

Summary
With both eyes fixed stubbornly on her plate, Rey sopped up the plasticky tasting gravy from her vacuum-sealed dinner with a dense chunk of carbo-rusk, licking the excess that dribbled down her fingers. It was still better than the dried out veg-meat she had scavenged for.
Evidently, he did not appreciate being ignored.
“That’s disgusting,” he informed her with a prim, superior tone.
Rey wondered how childish it would be for her to chew with her mouth open out of spite.

Summary
She should have realized that the truth would be revealed eventually--that while the Resistance had been scrambling to survive, Rey had been aboard the Supremacy, fighting a fruitless battle of her own making . Silently, she stared at the holo-flyer hovering over the dejarik table in the main cargo hold, her own image glaring back.
In a clunky aurebesh font it read: Rey of Jakku wanted for the murder of Supreme Leader Snoke.
The First Order had put out a bounty of 100,000 credits on her head, dead or alive.

Summary
A small weight was placed into his arms and Kylo started. In Rey’s hold, their bundled child hadn’t looked so fragile and tiny but he was instantly made aware of how large, almost clumsy, his hands were.
“Ben, relax. You aren’t going to hurt her,” Rey murmured, her tired voice seeped with joy and pride. He should have felt irritated by how well she read him or embarrassed by his apprehension. Instead, he stared down into his daughter’s bluish eyes, mesmerized by the blended features that made up her round face.
“She has my ears,” he mumbled. “Poor thing.”

Summary
She brushed back waves of dark hair from falling into his slack face and he woke with a startled grunt, jolting upward and turning wildly until he saw her, his brown eyes softening with warm emotion.
“Good morning,” she whispered. The hand she had combed his hair with smoothed along the edge of his jaw.
“You’re here,” he answered in awe.
