Summary
Tendou closes the door behind himself and whispers, “Are we going off-campus?”
“Yeah,” Eita says, voice hardly more than a breath.
Technically they aren’t supposed to leave campus without permission and telling an adult where they’re going and when they’ll be back, but Eita’s snuck out several times before, so he isn’t worried. Tendou doesn’t seem bothered, either; he just pats down his hair so that it fits underneath his hood and motions for Eita to lead the way.

Summary
Above them, the sky is amber and rose, the sun still not having fully set. It’s cool outside for May, and Shirabu, who runs cold, is wearing his jacket. Eita, on the other hand, is in a plain t-shirt and black jeans, his hair still wet from showering, while Goshiki hadn’t even bothered to change out of his gym clothes. Together, they’re a strange combination, but it works.

Summary
“You don’t suck,” Eita says. He reaches out and ruffles Goshiki’s hair in what he hopes is a comforting gesture. “Kenjirou’s just, like, a Mario Kart god or something.”
“I like that,” Shirabu says. His character passes the finish line and wins, and Goshiki sets down his controller, groans, and leans backwards onto Eita. “Taichi, put that on my birthday cake.”
“I will next year if you manage to keep that title,” Kawanishi says. Then, “You don’t even like cake.”
Shirabu just shrugs.

Summary
At some point, Eita becomes so sucked into the game that he forgets about Tendou, and their closeness, and the smell of Tendou’s fennel and cinnamon bark body wash, and his own stupid, pointless crush on his best friend slash roommate.
“This is my favourite game,” Tendou says quietly. “Thanks for playing it.”

Summary
They need to talk, Eita knows. There’s so much between them right now, unsaid. Eita knows Shirabu thinks he hates him, and he knows that Shirabu probably feels guilty, and he knows that he’s been annoying himself with his dirty looks and his anger. It’s hard to talk, though, when every word gets stuck in his throat.

Semi and Shirabu have a much-needed conversation.
