Summary
Just as the darkness threatened to swallow him whole, Cheng Xiaoshi jolted awake, gasping for breath, sweat slick on his skin. His hands gripped the sheets, his chest heaved, heart hammering against his ribs as the remnants of the nightmare clung to him, refusing to let go.
He wiped the sweat from his brow with trembling hands. He rubbed his face, trying to dispel the remnants of the dream, but the anxiety still prickled at the edges of his consciousness. He took deep, deliberate breaths, focusing on the slow rise and fall of his chest, trying to calm the erratic beat of his heart.
And Lu Guang was there, sleeping yet a one call away, on the top of the bunk, made him feel relieved.
He wasn’t alone.
So finally, he turned his attention back to the bunk above him as he rested his head back on the pillow. But his eyes caught the unmoving shadow that was peaking at him from the side, barely visible and cloaked in the darkness.
He stilled for a moment before unconsciously letting out a blood-curdling scream.

In the moments after Qiao Ling leaves the photo studio with one of the ramen bowls—dubbed Flavors of the Male Dorm by Cheng Xiaoshi, which was definitely plagiarized—there is a long moment of silence that hangs in the air between Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi.
In the blink of an eye Lu Guang drops his chopsticks on the counter to instead reach his hand across the distance between them and fist it in the collar of Cheng Xiaoshi’s shirt. He yanks him forward, noting the surprise on the dark-haired boy’s face, before he slots their lips together.
Cheng Xiaoshi’s lips taste like ramen broth, rich and spicy.

“You will have to because this is our last chance, Cheng Xiaoshi.” He said, voice firm before giving the other man a serious look. But instead of coming in contact with the other’s orbs,his eyes fell towards something that was trickling down from the black haired’s nose.
He froze.
At first, it didn’t register. Cheng Xiaoshi was still sitting there, staring at him, but something was off—something red was smeared across his upper lip.
Cheng Xiaoshi, oblivious as always, barely noticed. But Lu Guang’s eyes widened in an instant, the red unmistakable in the pale light of the room.........

It made him upset, honestly. He didn’t want to be mad with the other, and he knew better than to doubt Xiaoshi, but in that moment he’d wanted to shout ‘why won’t you listen!’, to grab the other and watch his face and ask ‘why won’t you just trust me’.
As Lu Guang glanced over Cheng Xiaoshi’s waiting form, he continued to hold his tongue, even as his thoughts continued to swirl.
Why can’t you be this good when it matters?

After yet another unscripted risk during a dive, Lu Guang's tensions are high worrying over his submissive. Impulsively, he pulls them into a scene, to prove to himself that he can protect Xiaoshi, and to give Xiaoshi a chance to remind them both of his deep trust in his dom. (more details in notes)

You're always nagging me," Cheng Xiaoshi leaned over the back of his chair, put on a puppet show with his hands, and dawned his best Lu Guang impression, " 'Cheng Xiaoshi, don't change the past', 'Cheng Xioashi, let it be', 'What an amazing performance Cheng Xiaoshi, surely not emotionally devastating, have a cookie.'"
Lu Guang narrowed his eyes.
CHeng Xiaoshi gave him a pointed look. "Except you never give me cookies."
"What do cookies have to do with anything?!"
Cheng Xiaoshi gasped. "It has everything to do with everything! I'll climb up six thousand flights of stairs - while you rest your pretty little head - and I don't even get a celebratory 'you did it' cake."
Lu Guang frowned. "We cannot afford sweets. And Qiao Ling's the only one who can bake-"
"The landlord? In our kitchen? Now who has bad memory? Did you forget what happened last time?"
They both shuddered.
