Cheng Xiaoshi turns around and retches, his stomach dry-heaving as he regurgitates everything inside of him. He’s gagging, choking over the vomit, and he can’t tell if he’s crying because of what he witnessed or because he’s throwing up.
The vomit pools beneath him as Cheng Xiaoshi heaves on all fours, trying to catch his breath. His stomach clenches in pain. Sweat drips down his brow through dark colored hair.
He wipes at his lips, brushing away the last of the slick as he tries to stand up on shaky legs.
Suddenly, Cheng Xiaoshi remembers what Lu Guang had always told him: death is a node that, under no circumstances, can nor should be changed.
