"I didn't like the way the medicine made me feel. I didn't feel like me any more." Here, he looked up at Stroulinas in a way that her Andan training recognized as so perfectly innocent and beseeching that it couldn't possibly be genuine. "Do you not love me the way I am?"
Her face instantly shifted from the same exasperated expression that she wore when Mikodez refused to eat his vegetables to one that conveyed hurt and heartbreak. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I love you just as you are," she reassured him, enveloping him in a hug, all the while knowing that her son had shamelessly guilted her. "But please try to stop humming in class."
Mikodez sniffled a bit, returned the hug, and silently congratulated himself on having chosen such a successful angle of attack.
