Summary
“I’m not okay,” Nick confesses. “And it’s getting worse.”
Young nods slowly. He takes his time before he answers. “Does that scare you?”
Nick realizes then that Young doesn’t need him to explain exactly what he’s going through. He doesn’t have to try to give words to what he’s feeling. Young knows. And thus, the answer to Young's question is unexpectedly simple.

After Gloria’s death Nick dedicates his life to the ninth chevron problem instead of dealing with his guilt and grief. When even his math fails him, he starts spiraling down into a depression. At rock bottom he meets Everett Young who tries to show Nick that despite all the pain and emptiness his life is worth living.
