Summary
Daniil looked down at the vial and placed it on the desk. “Leave it with me. I’ll study it. Will only take a few hours.”
He expected Burakh to turn and leave - the man always seemed to be rushing somewhere - but he didn’t. He looked pointedly at Burakh’s hand and saw that his knuckles were white with the tightness of his grip. The diagnostic criteria slid into place and he kicked himself for his slowness. The hunched posture, the uneven footsteps, the despondent expression - Burakh couldn’t leave. He could barely keep himself upright.
Daniil looked past him at the modest cot that had been his resting place those few times he could steal an hour of sleep. He sighed. He would get no such respite now.
“While I’m busy, you may hit the cot over there. I won’t be using it.”

Summary

Summary
After the plague had made shambles of it, the lonely house had only hopes that its heir would forgive it. It did nothing as the man it housed was murdered, and it did everything to house the murderer. The building couldn’t apologize for what it had done, though. It had to shiver silently as Isidor cursed its bathroom with pestilence. It had to watch horrifically as its infection spread from it to other houses with families. It had to endure painfully as it sat empty without life for nearly a fortnight. In those moments, it grew spiteful-- angry even. But, it was weak. When Isidorov moved in, the house couldn’t defend itself. It could only hope for a merciful host, one so generous as to forgive a bystander of the murder of his father.
However, to its relief, the house was reassured that it had a lot more in common with young Burakh than his father.
