Summary
The accident finally happened, the room filling with cheers. But then that green thing opened the green box and it all stopped. The lights went back to normal, and then they cut out. Everyone started moving back to their spots absent-mindedly. The time seemed to de-age 40 years. The lights flicked back on, causing everyone to wake up and start working again. Everyone except Claire.
Claire remembers what happened in the 40 years those guys were there.

You waited, expecting for the boss to drop some kind of punch line, revealing it all to be a joke.
"Really!?" You felt like facepalming yourself for such a ridiculous and silly remark, but the Red guy in front of you sort of shrugged. He hadn't the faintest idea of what was a good or bad candidate. You were alive and talking, clearly able to work and that was all that mattered.
"Yeah. You can work here. That's sort of it."
"Tha… Thank you!" You stand up and nervously grin, holding a hand out for a shake.
Peterson looks down at your hand and lamely reaches out, offering nothing more than a weak, meek handshake.
