    bucky barnes had spent his entire life playing with, protecting, and falling in love with steve rogers. in truth, the main reason he enlisted was to fight for the country that little steve called his own. he wanted to do everything he could to protect a man who would gladly give his life for the american people. bucky fought through seventy years of hell to get back to him. and for awhile, he had him back. they were happy, and bucky could see their future together.

    but steve wasn't happy. where bucky had let go, steve had clung to the past like a lifeline. before bucky could take another breath, he left him. steve had lost him five times before, but this was the one time that bucky lost him.
