William screamed, feeling his throat burn and tears stream down his face as he lunged forward, towards his friend. Vyncent fell, almost in slow motion. Blue flames swallowed the man, obscuring him from William’s gaze. His eyes widened as he realized that blue raging blue flames were surrounding him, trapping him in the suffocating pit.

"“Wha—” William tries to speak, pain making his already quiet voice sound rougher than normal, probably to ask a question of little importance, but Mal shushes him gently, reaching out to grab the boy’s chin, and smirking at the way the younger tries to flinch away from the touch.
He hums, spreading out his thumb to wipe the tears from William’s cheek whilst he holds him in place, grip gentle yet firm, and confusion joins the magnificent parade of emotions flickering through the boy’s eyes.
