Nakahara turns red and jabs an elbow backwards into Dazai’s ribs. Akiko snorts as Dazai wheezes and gets told off, but her attention is snagged when Ozaki laughs.
It’s behind her fan, and not for very long or very hard, but her eyes narrow to crescents, her brows arch, and her shoulders rise. Ozaki Kouyou’s laugh is a resounding sound, in the space of the room, in Akiko’s ears. It’s like the tinkle of windchimes overlaid on the babble of a creek, low and layered. It’s stepped, like a staircase, like she’s leaping from one stair to the other with the tone.

Dazai steels himself for the oncoming mockery about to be thrown his way, tongue poised to bite back, but when Chuuya finally turns and sees them he doesn’t say anything. He’s utterly silent, eyes widening and shoulders dropping, before he pivots his body completely to face Dazai and his eyes narrow and rove over him. Dazai doesn’t flinch under the thorough inspection, just takes the shoes Kouyou offers him with poise and leans over to put them on.
He looks up at Chuuya while he’s running a finger across the back of the shoes to fit them to his feet, and smiles coquettishly from under his lashes. “Cat got your tongue?” Dazai rises, tucking a lock of long hair behind his ear. “Or are you just stunned to see me looking ten times better than you, even in drag?”
aka, I've seen so many fics where Chuuya has to reluctantly crossdress for a mission, so why not let Dazai have a turn for a change

You could feel the metal inside you pulling you down and twisting itself in your gut. Instead, you distracted yourself with the silky locks before you.
“I'll be fine. You should go before you're late.” Your voice was oddly soft, almost a wisp of syllables.
Dazai could conceal their face when necessary, but they didn't like doing it in front of you. They hated it. Dazai missed that smile that tugged the edges of your lips up into the loveliest arch the world could provide, wanted to see it for real: shining eyes and blushing cheeks. Their fingers brushed over your cheek before burying in your hair to pull you closer and place a kiss against your forehead.
