They did not expect the construction of the tower to take as long as it did, nor for the Pale to approach so relentlessly, and so it sits alone. Humming its old song on repeat. A faint crackle of static, and a statement delivered by the tower itself, rather than any radio frequency.

The worst part isn’t remembering his face in the mirror and seeing eyes that went dark years before—no, the worst part is seeing the same eyes on a twelve-year-old boy.

This is something I wrote ages ago, intended to be the opening chapter for a fic wherein Harry goes back to Martinaise and brings Cuno back home with him. As you might be able to guess, the rest of this fic never got written, and I think my writing style is too far removed from Disco Elysium now to ever return to it. So, you get what was already written as a oneshot.
Also, I know now that Voyager Road was where Harry lived with Dora and not where he grew up, but I ask kindly for you to suspend your disbelief for me. Come play with me in my playhouse.
