He blinked and looked more brightly to Jean that his decaying frame should allow “No I mean, why are you helping me?”
Jean felt his stomach turn. The man barreled on.
“If it causes you so much distress? I mean I could think it is hatred but it doesn’t make any sense. You can only act like this if you love me.”
“ Shut up .” Jean spat.

“I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Jean closed his eyes and took several trembling breaths.
His old Harry was dead.
Something bushy and bright eyed and so painfully earnest was in his place instead.
Still inside that infernal engine, that failing moral body, the slug of blood beat through the same heart.
He smiled like a loving version of The Expression .
