Deep down, Mulder knew that if they were entangled even more tightly, he’d eventually become more irritated than aroused by her voice. He’d hear it in reference to uneaten vegetables and unopened mail and unfolded laundry. He glanced down at himself and felt like his heart was about to jump out of his chest when he noticed the bulge on him. What on earth was that? He stared down at himself for a moment, in shock. Then, he decided he would try to push it down; maybe that would help. He startled even more when his own action made him let out an undignified, weird sound. Like a groan, but not really. Why had that felt so good? He just stared at himself for another moment, horrified. He tried it again. He had no idea what he was doing, but it felt wrong. St. Anthony’s was his last chance, and Evan knew that. He had been kicked out of five schools in the past six years, and after his sophomore year ended with a meeting between his parents and his last headmaster that could be summarized with: “we’re not kicking him out, but just know that Evan is not welcome back in September.” His parents wanted to send him to military school.
