Summary
It was easy to get lost in that blue. Finley could picture the fish in the ocean, swimming under that deep blue surface. They breached the surface, only seen by those above for a brief moment before they disappeared again, as if they’d never existed in the first place.
What was it like to be one of those fish? To exist only in the moment, never worrying about what came and went. Do fish remember things? Do fish worry? Do fish fear death, or just instinctually swim away from anything bigger than them?

James Finley had always followed the river that life laid out for him like a helpless fish, too weak to swim against the current. After the Tulpar's crash into Wake Rock, resident janitor Finley struggles to accept the fate that the person he trusted most, Captain Curly, has set forth for the crew. Curly couldn't, Curly wouldn't, Jimmy had been walking away. Finley sinks with the rest of the ship, into a spiraling place that no swimmer could drag themselves from.
As the months drag on, Finley dreams of being a fish.
