"That’s terrible," he says, hoping Will can’t see the grin that’s threatening to split his face in half.
"I'm not wrong," Will says, delight beaming through his voice as a board clatters down on the bench and two strong arms wrap around him from behind. "It’s us, babe!"
"No, no, absolutely not," says Orym, with as much affected disdain as he can manage when squeezed up against his husband, which is not very much at all. "I am not an onion—"
On a cool Yulisen evening in autumn, Orym gets home from work, Will has a semi-successful trip to the market, and together, they make soup.

Oh. Vax blinked, looking back at the girl. She still looked scared, but mostly she just looked confused. A little awkward, perhaps. Unbidden, a faint smile formed on his lips. A kinder place to live? Vax knew exactly where to bring her. "
