Summary
"They kiss him. They kiss him and he thinks about the joy of breaking their heart.
Honestly, it’s a shame. A shame he isn’t physically repulsed enough to be driven to make it an immediate reality—where his instincts always strove for the upper hand, now they were telling him the sole option to achieve it was to… not do anything. To play the passive observer. To be the damn pillow princess.
For one who could legitimately call themselves a connoisseur of wrestling for top—where inevitability was momentarily forgotten for the pretence of otherwise—this is a most tragic fate. One many might deem a self-imposed limitation, and hence, easily escapable, but Vere was not going to simply abandon what had guided him for much of his life. That, and the appeal of wrestling quickly lost all lustre when it came to Tiên. An opponent who had to hold back lest they best him instantly made it no fun at all."

Vere’s life would be a whole lot simpler if Tiên was either killable or a shit lay. Unfortunately for him, they’re neither.

Summary
“It should have annoyed him. Or rather, he should have been more annoyed—enough to be spurned into action, or at the very least full of biting words as opposed to biting them back. Vere had certainly cut people off for far less, a nonzero sadistic streak enabling him to find a particular enjoyment in reminding others when they forgot their place. You could even accuse him of it being one of his hobbies and have that accusation be warranted.
So why was Tiên still slumbering peacefully in his bed?”

There were two main rules when it came to dealing with monsters.

Summary
“‘Silly Mhin. I never had to be real. With a monstrous guilt like yours? Teeming at the rim? Bursting at the seams? Look at you. You’re already doing so much of the work on your own. And you want to know what the funniest thing is?’
Sabri leans down. Leans close. Only an exhale of a whisper to be measured between their faces, her veil shifting with the movement to enshroud them both in gossamer secret. It’s not her. It isn’t. Just like the hatred in the eyes meeting theirs isn’t hers. Not truly.
But the awareness that should have helped does not.
‘You hope bearing it will absolve you.’”

Mhin’s dream brings an old companion with a newer face.

Summary
“‘Alright,’ he starts, and while it is in surrender, audible interest quickly overtakes it in a move to make it not seem like as much of one. ‘So what nonsense did they do to you this time, hm?’
Doubtless a prying question, objectively speaking. Undeniably so, and yet, Tiên only hums, visibly unchanged, reseating herself across from them on the edge of the bed. She’d have moved closer, but it was apparent the conversation took precedent over that idea. ‘This time…’
It would have been funny, how easily a captive audience was found. Funnier, considering who the audience was. Not that difficult to pique but another matter entirely to sustain, Vere’s attention (and Ais’, for that matter) was a fickle beast at best, as was its owner. Even now, though they had long since earnt it with an ease so natural it had become effortless, he had to on occasion pretend that they hadn’t.
‘…the Senobium wanted to see how long I would last.’”

Vere’s lust for power takes him to interesting places—and to interesting people.
