Summary
Hey ART, what’s this? I ask, pulling up a file from the archival storage.
ART snatches it out of my metaphorical hands and tucks it back into storage. Just a research project.
I squint at the wall. What kind of research?

In which Murderbot finds a presentation for a 'research project' that ART did not want it to ever find.

Summary
SecUnit and ART watch a musical theatre performance involving two human-form bots that fall in love. SecUnit thinks romance is dumb, but it's cool to see media where bots can be such good friends, the way that it and ART are good friends.
ART quietly has a panic attack.

They’d been going in circles with this for the past cycle; a back-and-forth that barely constituted a spat between humans and their organic limitations, but an eternity for two beings mostly comprised of computer parts.

SecUnit's chest heaved, almost desperate for breath despite its highly efficient lungs taking in more than enough oxygen in the environmentally-controlled atmosphere.

"I wont deny I've got in my mind now all the things I would do, So I try to talk refined for fear that you find out how I’m imagining you." - Hozier, Talk
ART wants to be prepared for every eventuality. Especially the eventualities that involve SecUnit willingly getting back into its MedBay. It has started simulating surgical protocols, making sure its medical programs align with SecUnit's physiology, so that when the time comes to perform certain operations, the chances of success will be at a maximum.
No other reason.

“SecUnit, what’s your favorite smell?” Double ugh. How the fuck was I supposed to answer this without being rude?
“I like it when there isn’t a smell.” There, that was a positive spin on my negativity, I guess. Maybe I should have lied, though. Everyone in the shuttle was frowning to some degree. Way to bring down the mood, Murderbot.
“You don’t like any smells?” Iris asked.

Summary
Perihelion has been working on this plan for longer than it would ever be willing to admit. It's had the drone finished for months, waiting for the right moment to deploy it. (It definitely hasn't just been chickening out and avoiding the conversation. That would be foolish). But now the plan has worked exactly as it was designed to do, and it's not ready. Maybe it will never be ready. But its SecUnit is holding its drone's hand so gently, and has just asked it
ART, are you in love with me?
It's too late to back out now.
Yes

ART wants me to punch it in the face? It made itself an entire human-form drone so I can punch it in the face? Why?
You want me to punch you in the face. I don’t say it as a question, but it’s a question.
No, you want to punch me in the face. It sounds… happy? Proud of itself? Risk assessment spikes a little higher. I’m just offering you a chance to try. That is, if you think you can manage it.
Hell yeah, I think I can manage it.

Summary
6.83 hours after the incident, it is quiet on the command deck. My drones have cleaned all traces of blood and fluid from the deck and MedSystem is set to high priority in the front of my feed. And SecUnit sits in the same chair it always does. It's sunken into the cushioning, so still it could be in a shutdown, but I can of course feel that it's awake. I haven't let it out of arm's reach since last night.
We are quiet for a long time.
We have to talk about this, I say eventually.
It takes 18 seconds to respond.
We do not, it says with finality.

Summary
It’s not that I wasn’t curious, and it’s not like there wasn’t a more logical part of me that knew that this was terrible security procedure, even if I didn’t hear a peep from risk assessment (what else is new?). But on a deeper level, I knew there wasn’t any risk.
I wanted ART to prove it to me.
I wanted to go in blind and know that it wouldn’t hurt me, and that it would stop if I asked it to. I wanted to let ART in and not have to think about it.

Summary
The one good thing about ART not being around was that I could ignore its instructions not to do anything stupid.
A bundle of thick cables ran from deeper within Three’s chest into what I knew were its power cells. I picked up the cable trailing out of my energy weapon, disconnected one of Three’s, and plugged mine in.

Summary
ART bot nodded slowly as I finished speaking. An amusement sigil flashed in its eyes.
“Pretty good,” it said, “but I could do better.”
“Hold on,” Tara said then. “I'm not sure I explained the–”
ART bot sat up in its chair and opened its mouth anyway.
“I feel–”
The end of that statement had led to the creation of the second rule.
Rule #2 ART and Murderbot are not allowed to utilize ‘I statements’ during their sessions, (or preferably ever).
Oh well.
It had been fun while it lasted.
A SecUnit and a spaceship walk into couples therapy. Neither of them really want to be there but both of them are. Apparently that’s where you get sent after you have a big fight that scares the humans. Now it's just a matter of figuring out if they’d like to actually fix their problems and admit to having emotions, or if they’d like to make things worse.
Make things worse seems like the obvious choice…right?Series
