Summary
Valerie visits her grandparents’ house to pick up an old box from the attic, but instead finds a mysterious book wrapped in chains. After searching through a jar of keys and finally unlocking it, she discovers disturbing sketches, strange symbols, and pages predicting events from her past—and even her future, including her death in a week. Shocked and confused, she hides the book from her grandmother and then learns from her grandfather that the book once belonged to a strange former homeowner who warned it was evil. Back at her dorm, Valerie shows the book to her roommate Alia, who panics, but Valerie insists she has a plan to avoid her predicted death and asks for Alia’s help.
