Jade steps off the edge of the roof in her overalls and her harness and cherishes the sick thrill of almost-falling, this endless teasing flirtation with death and the thing it does to her body, it is terror but it is also adrenaline twisting in a tight coil from her throat to her groin. The harness around her body is her fuck-you to gravity and the care she takes of her straps and ropes is her ongoing love letter to life. She trusts her equipment, sometimes more than she trusts her own mind, because it’s a mind that keeps longing for unobtainable things.
With a squirt of soapy water and the serpentine slide of her squeegee, she starts cleaning the city’s grime from the thick windows of the penthouse apartment.
Inside, there’s someone in the bedroom. On the bed, and they’re most definitely not asleep.
