Rick's heart swelled with pride, and the dress she was wearing also stirred other feelings that he would need to save for after the party. The man also noticed the look Evelyn gave him when she saw him in his suit, so he wasn't the only one.
Jonathan was going too; He would never miss his baby sister's moment to shine. Yes, there would be men who looked at Evy like she didn't belong there, but Evelyn and her family would not let anyone crush her dreams. Nobody would ruin that night. Except, perhaps, if someone were to awaken a mummy, but the three were optimistic that this would not happen.

Rick knew that memory would haunt him forever. The despair that gripped him as he held his wife's body, the cries of his 8-year-old son, and his brother-in-law breaking his already devastated heart into pieces. His body craved rest, his mind was shattered, but he couldn't stop.
If Imhotep defeated the Scorpion King, he would rule the world, and the rest of Rick's small family would be destroyed. Rick turned and reached out to Alex, who ran to him seeking comfort. After a while hugging his little boy tightly and telling him how much his mother loved him, that he loves him, Rick stood up.

To be honest, Rick never imagined living through this. He always imagined himself dying in some street with no one even caring to go to his funeral. But here he is, in a big, comfortable house, massaging the feet of his intelligent and beautiful pregnant wife (yes, he has a wife now!) after they've returned from dinner with his brother-in-law and some friends.
Since Hamunaptra, much has changed. He gained a family, and soon he will have a child. At the beginning of their relationship, Rick feared that Evelyn would show up and say she no longer wanted to be with someone like him, a nobody. But Evelyn spoke of him to everyone with pride and love.

Summary
Since today is my birthday (hehe) and the filming for the new canon The Mummy 3 with Bendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah will begin soon, I decided to write a fanfic in honor of the fantastic librarian and archaeologist Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell and all women in the field.
Evelyn deals with sexist comments (the Egyptologist saying "They are led by a woman. What does a woman know?") and rejection in the field but doesn't give up. I love her and I think she deserves more love in the fandom.
PS: My eyesight has gotten worse recently, but I've memorized the location of the keyboard keys and the screen reader tells me what I'm typing. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the story.

Evelyn found herself alone in their home in London. She looked around and noticed how damaged and old the mansion seemed. The portraits were broken, everything destroyed.
"Rick? Alex? Jonathan?" she asked as she climbed the stairs, careful not to trip over the fallen furniture. No one answered, and she began to go to the bedrooms.
Evelyn imagined finding her husband getting ready for bed, Alex playing with his toys on the floor of his room, and Jonathan warming himself by the fireplace. But there was no one there.
Despair hit her hard. Where is her family?
