Summary
Harry and Tom meet when they're 4 and 8. They grow into (somewhat) friends, with Tom teaching Harry how to read (hes 4, guys) and Harry giving Tom all the shiny silver and gold he can get his parents to give him (a lot. It's a lot).
When Harry eventually starts Hogwarts at 11, Tom is already 14 in Slytherin. And while his social standing might not be top notch, he does still have followers (read: friends).
