Phainon stares down at Mydei, fast asleep beside him in their shared bed, the dim light of the Entry Hour filtering through the curtains and brightening the edges of him in a warm glow. Like this, fast asleep, there is a sense of peace in his expression. A lightness that Phainon rarely sees when Mydei is awake, a freedom from the burden of responsibility and duty. His breathing comes out as soft, warm puffs of breath against the pillow, the only sign of wakefulness a discontented murmur when Phainon had extracted himself from Mydei’s embrace with great difficulty; it’s the siren’s call of sleep and the safety of Mydei’s arms, head to his chest and hearing his strong heartbeat beneath Phainon’s head, that tempts him to retreat back under the covers, but when he remembers what they agreed on, a flash of arousal chases away the haze of sleep.

Mydeimos had baked cinnamon rolls the night before, so they warm those up with some of the thin frosting for breakfast, a calm silence between them as they drink coffee and eat together. They’re both shirtless and in underwear for a change, comfortable, trusting.
Mydeimos finishes his food first. Sets down his fork. Looks Phainon in the eyes, and says, “Let’s fuck.”
