    Summary

    “Wei-xiong…? What happened?”

Wei Ying said nothing, pulling on the ends of the ribbon he still wore. Xichen looked like he was going to speak again, but Lan Zhan beat him to it.

    “You’re out of seclusion?”

Xichen hesitantly took his eyes off Wei Ying, turning now to his brother, and nodded. “Mn. As of this morning. I expected to tell the pair of you at the lecture, but neither of you came.” He glanced back at Wei Ying, who shrunk into his husband a fraction. “When I spoke to the juniors, none of them had seen you. Sizhui was concerned enough that he asked me to check in on you, so I came here. Wangji, what’s happened?”

“I…” Lan Zhan squeezed Wei Ying; he squeezed back. “I don’t know how to explain.”

Wei Ying’s fingers curled in his robes and Xichen looked at him with such kindness, such familial concern, that he found his voice.

“I… I remembered what happened to me… after I died.”

Or: The one where Wei Ying remembers what happened to him after his death, and what he does in response to it.

    Summary

Thick, jagged marks lined one over another over another, covered the entire expanse of skin Wei Ying could see. Angry, raised skin that had never quite faded to white like most scars do. To still be so prominent after thirteen years, the strikes must have been…

My fault. My fault. My fault.

    “Wei Ying?”

Or, the weight of what Lan Zhan endured after his death finally hits Wei Ying, and it hits like a truck.

    Summary

We all know the story of Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren, rogue cultivators who had perished on a night hunt and left their infant son to grow up in the streets of Yiling. But what if that wasn’t true? What if there was a third parent, a blood-sworn three-way cultivational throuple? What if Wei Wuxian got into the Ghost Cultivation early because his parents’ souls refused to leave their son behind? This is the Story of Wen Wuxian, the third son of Wen Ruohan, the precious little sunshine of the Wen Sect.

The sun comes up from its nook in the east, seems to rise from beneath the earth,
Passes on through Heaven, sets once again in the western sea,
And where, oh, where, can its team of six dragons ever find any rest?
Its daily beginnings and endings, since ancient times never resting.
And man is not made of its Primal Stuff-- how can he linger beside it long?
Plants feel no thanks for their flowering in spring’s wind, nor do trees hate losing their leaves under autumn skies:
Who wields the whip that drives along four seasons of changes -- The rise and the ending of all things is just the way things are

    Summary

Wei Wuxian survived the first Siege of the Burial Mounds, and then, effective immediately, he cut the entire cultivation world off. Wards so strong they would disintegrate whoever touched them had risen moments after he had expelled the invaders from the Mounds. He refused to let anyone in or let anyone out. This was a true statement and a cold, hard fact until the day Nie Huaisang came knocking with a very personal request.

Or, Nie Huaisang refuses to lose his brother to the machinations of the world, prompting him to seek out the very man who can save them all.
