    V’s got a Ballsy magazine stuffed somewhere in the crack between the bed and the wall, but he’s looked it over so many times he can practically see the spreads, in every sense of the word, with his eyes closed. Over-exaggeratedly sculpted chrome bodies, harshly lit and excessively lewd. It’s not doing it for him. V’s gotta crank one out— needs to, frankly, the way he’s been simmering pent up under the surface the past few days, but every time he gets started he just—

    V opens his eyes and startles.

    Johnny’s lying right next to him.

    He should have been expecting it, he guesses, given the fact that tonight he’s taking longer than usual. Still, Johnny’s never come back early before. He could’ve given him the courtesy of a call, a knock, at least some sort of sitcom skit level barging through the door. A honey, I’m home, cue canned laughter. But that relied on Johnny Silverhand being courteous to begin with; and it relied, more importantly, on Johnny actually ever truly leaving.

     V shuffles closer to him, close enough that his hair makes the crook of Johnny’s neck waver, flickering into blue data and back again. To anyone on the outside looking in, it’d look like V has his forehead pressed to Johnny’s collarbone.

    There’s a hairsbreadth of space between them. The simulacrum of touch is nigh perfect, though, and Johnny plays along. He pretends to rest his jaw on the top of V’s head, just shy of actually touching the fine hairs there.

    He can touch the bed. Feel the silk-soft bedsheet. Have his hair fan out against a pillow like he’s really there.

    He’s a ghost for all the things that don’t matter.
