Peter answers.
What begins as a way to put the past to rest becomes something harder to ignore. He’s still trying to make sense of what remains with MJ and Ned. She’s beginning a new life in Westchester. Neither of them is looking for anything else.
And yet the letters keep coming.
A thought becomes a reply. A reply becomes anticipation. The distance between New York and Westchester starts to feel smaller, and somewhere along the way, two people who never planned on finding each other again begin drifting back into one another’s lives.
Neither of them planned for that.

Summary
In the aftermath of the fight that should have been the end of him, Spider-Man ponders two impossible truths:
One: For a moment, brief as it may have been, his spider-sense had gone quiet, as if he was as safe as he would have been inside of his own apartment.
Two: The gunman had cried.On their own, these truths mean nothing. Together, held up against a light, Peter can't help but think they look suspiciously similar to a girl with red hair and a penchant for solving problems from a long distance.

Summary
Jean doesn't know a lot about love, not really.
She's never had a lot of people to learn from.
Sara was the only person who ever really loved her, and Jean thinks that loving someone means staying because Sara did. Sara loved her, and Sara stayed. So Jean stays for Peter.
She learns a lot from loving Peter. She learns that falling in love happens somewhere between burning the toast and arguing about laundry and brushing past each other in the kitchen, and all without you realizing it. She learns that she's capable of loving someone other than Sara. She learns that love isn't always wonderful - sometimes love is terrible because sometimes you fall in love with someone whose heart already belongs to another. And it breaks your heart.
Jean learned from Sara that loving someone means staying.
Jean learns from Peter that loving someone means staying even when it breaks your heart.
So Jean stays for Peter, even though it breaks her heart, because she loves him.
(As it turns out, he loves her too. It just takes him a while to realize it.)
Or
Jean gets off the bus. She stays with Peter, falls in love, gets her heart broken, then gets that fairytale ending after all.

There was something messing with his head. Aside from the obvious person messing with everyone else’s heads.
Peter’s arachnid side was going crazy trying to find his mate. It’s just his luck it turns out to be the very threat that he was meant to take down.Or, Peter and Jean are soulmates, united by the fate of the spider and the phoenix. It really is an inconvenience when the one person you want to stop is the one you can’t stay away from.

Instead of handing Jean Grey over to the Department of Damage Control, he bolts. He swings her limp body through the city to his apartment and lays her on his bed. She's a telepath who can wear anyone like a second skin. She's also a girl who whispered "Save my sister" before the sedative took her.
Peter's life just got a whole lot more interesting with a Telepath living in his Apartment.
