Summary
Years after the war, Katara is no longer the girl who followed the Avatar; she is an ambassador seeking the stability that Aang’s boundless spirit could never provide. When she travels to the Fire Nation to help a matured Fire Lord Zuko reform his nation’s healing arts, the professional respect between them quickly ignites into a devastating, long-buried yearning.
As they navigate the "push and pull" of their elements in the humid corridors of the palace, they discover that while Aang offered her the sky, Zuko offers her something she never knew she craved: a place to finally take root. But just as fire and water begin to find their balance, the past returns with a proposal that threatens to extinguish their new dawn.

Summary
“I haven’t been able to sleep without dreaming about being suffocated under a pile of paperwork for months,” Zuko groans, still speaking into his hands. “Maybe years.”
Katara considers this. “You need help.”
“I need help,” he sighs.
She feels lightheaded. Before she can stop herself, she says, “We should get married.”
It’s so quiet it feels like even the fountain has stopped burbling.
Slowly, Zuko lifts his head, looking at her. His good eye is wide, lips parted.
“Huh?” he asks.
five years after aang defeats ozai, katara is adrift. the water tribe is well on the way to recovery, the earth kingdom flourishing once again. aang has a dedicated following of non-benders learning the ways of the air nomads. now that she has nothing to do, katara is at a loss.
zuko is underwater. the fire nation is drowning in a storm of its own making. he needs help. he needs a partner.
that’s why, when katara suggests they get married, he jumps at the chance. not because he’s been in love with her for years. no, definitely not.Bookmarked by Anyes20
