Hồ Hạ dừng bước. Không hiểu sao câu nói đơn giản của Lý Khắc Cần bỗng khuấy lên trong anh một dự cảm kì lạ, đủ lớn để khiến anh bồn chồn, nhưng cũng đủ ít để ngăn anh cảm nhận điều đó là tích cực hay tiêu cực.
Thấy Hồ Hạ quay đầu nhướng mày nhìn mình tỏ vẻ chẳng hiểu mô tê gì, Lý Khắc Cần bỗng cười thành tiếng, tiếng cười ngắn ngủi mà giòn giã vang lên, khiến căn phòng vốn yên tĩnh ấy tươi sáng hơn chút ít.
"Không có gì đâu, tôi dặn dò cậu thế thôi, chẳng có dụng ý gì cả," Lý Khắc Cần cười xong, xoa xoa mũi một chút, lại nhìn ra bên ngoài cửa sổ rộng lớn bắt trọn khung cảnh cánh đồng mây trắng xóa phía xa xăm, anh mắt dường như cũng có chút lơ đễnh, giống như đang để cảm nhận của bản thân đi truy bắt một thứ cảm xúc mơ hồ nào đó khó gọi tên, "chỉ là trực giác mách bảo tôi sau nhiệm vụ lần này tâm trạng cậu Hồ Hạ có hơi không vui."

Có lẽ một trong những điều bà muốn dạy cho Tảo An, hay những lời bà muốn nói trong đêm Giao Thừa năm đó là, thật ra cái chết không đáng sợ đến thế. Có lẽ nó chỉ là một dấu mốc đánh dấu ta hoàn thành một chặng đường, chuẩn bị tiến vào hành trình mới mà thôi. -

For some ungodly reason — probably related to a certain Cha Soo-Hyun — his mind is fucking blank. Some nerve has malfunctioned, the circuit’s been disrupted. Jae-Han can feel the disastrous words right before they leave his mouth, lining up behind his teeth—
“She’s so fucking hot when she does that.” Even more embarrassingly, he sounds almost reverent.

It is cold and dark and lonely. Hae-Young is silent beside her, breathing just as heavily, and as one, their eyes land on the singular item resting just beside the metal-plated shoulder blade.
A dusty, old, rattling ID that she picks up slowly, and her throat is closing up on her.
(A detective must always be focused.)
Years of mud and grime have accumulated on the plastic casing, covering the transparency and hiding what’s underneath. She’s almost sickeningly grateful for it.
Her breath is coming out in gasps because she is choking on her grief. Her hands shake as they slowly pull out the spotless card beneath the casing, as though it were preserved just for this.
