The argument came out of nowhere; the shouting followed quickly after. They had been preparing dinner after a long day spent outdoors, enjoying the brisk fall weather. This was Effie’s favorite time of year, and Haymitch had surprised her with some warm apple cider and a long walk through the forest to see the changing leaves. Walking hand in hand, leaves crunching underfoot… It had been such a pleasant day, the first in awhile, and the sudden mood shift threw her off balance.
