Summary
“You’re leaving,” Annette said, her voice cracking just enough to betray the composure she was desperately clinging to.
He didn’t stop packing. His hands moved over his sword belt, rolling it tightly before stuffing it into his bag.
“Felix,” she tried again, louder this time.
“I told you,” he said, his voice flat, “I can’t stay here.”
“Why not?” Her steps brought her closer to him, the sound of her boots echoing in the nearly empty room. “The war’s over. The Kingdom needs you. I need you.”
He froze for the briefest of moments, but the pause was so slight Annette wondered if she’d imagined it. He straightened up, slinging his bag over his shoulder and finally turning to face her. His expression was unreadable, his eyes cold, distant.
“You’ll be fine,” he said curtly. “You don’t need me, Annette.”

Felix leaves behind his duties; his title, his friends, Garreg Mach, everything. Including Annette. Only to find her years later, wanting to return to her, but she’s changed.

His father and his mother sat on these chairs. He couldn't remember his actual mother almost at all. He had the basest of memories that flitted away when he tried to observe them more closely. He was only three when she died.
After that, his father sat here with Patri–Anselma. Edelgard's mother. The woman who pretended to love him.
His fingers twitched around Marianne's. She would have to sit on that throne.
He took a breath to steady himself. It didn't mean anything.
