When Columbina acknowledges Arlecchino’s presence, the two share a tense yet intimate conversation. Summary
After the trial exposes Furina’s deception about her divine identity, she spirals into guilt and despair. Though some still appreciate her centuries of sacrifice for Fontaine, Furina believes she is hated by all, including Neuvillette. Overwhelmed, she leaves the palace, isolating herself from everyone.
Living alone for the first time in 500 years, Furina’s mental health deteriorates. She neglects herself and rejects attempts by Clorinde and Navia to help. Her only comfort is a kitten she adopts, but when the kitten is killed by cruel boys, Furina's fragile state shatters. Devastated and feeling utterly alone, she takes her own life.
Neuvillette, sensing something is wrong, rushes to her side, but he arrives too late. Finding Furina’s body, he is heartbroken, realizing his failure to support her contributed to her tragic end. The story closes with Neuvillette and Clorinde mourning the loss of the once-powerful but misunderstood Furina, filled with guilt and regret over her death.
