I love the scene in season one where Athena calls 911 and asks Abby to call Hen. But what if it was Bobby and not Aaron? And this is how Hen discovers that her boss and best friend are together! A few years later, Hen tells everyone the story. I used some of the dialogue from the show. All credit to the 911 writers.

Summary
Everyone is born without the ability to see color. Everyone is also born with, at the very least, one soulmate. These two facts are intertwined. Color is only obtained by someone claiming you as a soulmate. Someone that you in turn would claim too, in the matching way. The most common bonds are generally romantic soulmates but people also have soulmates in that ride or die friend, or the child they've claimed that isn't biologically theirs or siblings banding together in an abusive home. Friendship bonds can even change to become romantic and gain more colors.
As life goes on, people are generally expected to have at least one soulmate claim by the time they're in their thirty's. Anyone without colors by this time, depending on culture and religion, is at best considered weird, or at worse considered damned or a monster.
Bobby Nash is 50 years old and still does not see a single color.
