"Do you want me to be with you?" Vi denies that instantly. Caitlyn feels a pang at the rejection but does not question it.
"I love you," Vi says, out of the blue. And Caitlyn knows that. She knows. But they have not said that out loud — with all three words. Her heart races. "But I need to do this on my own."
A silence stretches for a few seconds.
"Ekko asked me to move in with the Firelights."
Caitlyn thinks that if Vi had not just said that she loved her — that she would've broken right there.

The handsome stranger came back to town in search of her long lost younger sister, who happens to be Caitlyn's archnemesis. Meanwhile, starting first grade in Bridge Elementary, Caitlyn's daughter and Vi's adopted kid become best friends, forcing the two single moms closer while the case drives them apart.
A story about a blended family that probably should have stayed in the blender a little longer.

Caitlyn met her lips fiercely, so fiercely that their teeth clacked against one another, made Vi let out a muffled mmph of pleased surprise. “God,” Caitlyn moaned, “that’d be so sexy.”
