It wasn’t an invitation, or was it? She wasn’t sure. Either way, there was something intimate in the way she worded it, as if she was sharing a secret that wasn’t meant for anyone else.

“I want you to pretend,” she whispered, her throat suddenly dry.
Jimin tilted her head. “Pretend? Pretend what?”
“That you love me.”
The words hit Jimin like a slap. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. Her eyes flickered with confusion, guilt. “Aeri..”
“I know it’s selfish,” Aeri said quickly, trying to explain herself. “I know you’re married. I know you love Minjeong. I don’t want anything to change that. I don’t want to kiss you or take anything from her. I just–I just want to feel like someone loved me back. Even if it’s not real.”

Summary
Aeri let out a soft laugh. “Where were you headed?”
Jimin smiled. Aeri’s voice sounded like music to her ears, her soft spoken tone made her stomach turn pleasantly. She patted the nearby wall, her fingers trailing against the stone. “I guess wherever the light takes me.”
Aeri raised an eyebrow and offered her arm. “Well,” she said, “then let’s follow it together.”
