The look that passes between Lux and Ekko tells her that they didn’t hear anything she just said — or rather that they’re choosing to ignore it.
“Sounds like she does.” Ekko says teasingly, his words drawn out and melodic in a sing-song fashion, his knee against hers suddenly feeling like much too much contact, and to make matters worse, he’s leaning closer, grinning like a Cheshire cat and poking at her side. “Powder has a crush.”
“No — I don’t. Obviously. That would be weird — and lame. And gross — could you imagine? Me — hah — with a crush?” Her face is even hotter now, tongue twisting, settling heavy in her mouth and heart hammering so hard she can feel it thumping wildly in the tips of her fingers. “I don’t even talk to anyone besides you guys — a-and I definitely don’t have a crush on either of you — duh. So, no crush. Nope. Haha.”
( She briefly wonders if it’s possible to kick herself in the face. )
