“I do not understand? Why would you want to spend your life with someone who does not love you? You deserve to be loved Penelope.” He saw her startle a bit at this statement, then let out a sarcastic laugh.
“You believe that Colin? If I waited for a love match, I would never marry, for the one I love will never love me in return.”
“You love someone?” He said curiously. Penelope’s eyes went wide, realizing what she had just said, she bit her lip. She looked down and shook her head.
“I misspoke, I apologize.” She looked back at him, his eyes searching hers.
“I do not believe you,” He challenged her, “You did not misspeak.” She felt her face flush red, she sighed loudly, trying to breath out the irritation she could feel coming to a head.
“I misspoke Colin, please do not ask me again,” she snapped. He looked taken aback, and a little hurt with the tone she used. She did not have time to apologize right now, he didn’t know he was the reason for her loveless future, but she also didn’t feel a pressing need to right this emotional outburst she had. “You said you had someone to introduce to me?” She wiped her hands on the skirt of her dress and looked back at him expectantly.
