Vi looked cornered. Her body tensed, as if every muscle inside her had seized up. Her eyes darted to the pavement, to the trees, to anywhere but Caitlyn.
“I don’t—” she started, her voice small.
“Why won’t you let me care about you?” Caitlyn asked, her voice cracking. “Why won’t you let me in? Is this even a friendship if you won’t let me help?”

"Wasn’t sure I… Fit into what you liked.” Nat finally says, not that this makes a ton of sense either. It’s just, Lottie could be a lesbian. She’s got a certain vibe, if you will.
Lottie wets her lips then, which, mind you - are already shimmering pink with the gloss she’s got on. “I like what I like.” Is all she says, and Nat’s positive she’s talking about him, implying somehow in all of this in that she wouldn’t mind kissing him, but he’s sure he must have that deer-in-headlights look he sometimes gets on his face when Lottie is now the one suddenly looking unsure, and yeah, he’s so about to fuck this up.

Summary
Natalie Scatorccio will say she has hated Lottie Matthews since she was in the 2nd grade. Back then, Lottie was the smallest in their class and always won the hearts of those around her with her chubby cheeks and award-winning smile, and Natalie hated it. When asked why, she will always roll her eyes and huff that it's personal, but in reality, it's just been so long she can’t even remember. Lottie Matthews will say she has hated Natalie Scatorccio since they were in the 7th grade, and Natalie allegedly (according to Natalie, despite it being 100% true) tripped her at soccer practice and caused her to sprain her ankle.
