Summary
The Miami AU has returned! For new readers, start with The Angel of Small Deaths. For returning readers, I most humbly present A Very Pickles Christmas, in which our favorite idiots-to-lovers Manon Blackbeak and Elide Lochan remain idiots and remain lovers. There's reindeer onesies and Manon decorating snowflake cookies and a knock on the door at Christmas Eve from the one person nobody expected to see.
Welcome back to Miami. Dive on in, the water's fine.

I don’t usually bookmark and recommend unfinished works, but… this is bound to be as epic as “Angel of Small Deaths”, which you NEED to read before this to understand the characters and alternate universe. Arcis has once again taken us into a modern day AU with these two “idiots turned lovers”. I cannot wait to continue this journey and see what the future holds for these two. I cannot stress enough how disappointing it was for SJM to set Manon & Elide up in a way where they could have, should have, ended up together. But no… she deviates from that and puts them both with men (don’t get me started on Lorcan). My only complaint is having to wait for updates. I’m too damn impatient.

Summary
Elide Lochan already had her slew of problems in life: an ex-friend turned boss, an ex-boyfriend turned conspirator, a general dissatisfaction with life, oh, and Manon Blackbeak, the CEO of a rival company who was insisting on being as uncharacteristically nice to her as possible.
She didn't need anything else on her plate.

Summary
Welcome to Miami. Shit’s going to get wild.
Meet Manon Blackbeak: heir and queen to the Miami club scene. Meet Elide Lochan: a veterinarian who makes a mean homemade cookie. They are both, for the record, complete idiots. Because Elide is in love with Lorcan. Got it? Lorcan. Not Manon goddamned Blackbeak, her childhood love, her teenage dream, her best friend. No, she’s over that heartbreak. Totally, 100% over it. And Manon … Manon has loved Elide Lochan since they were eight years old and still has no goddamned clue what to do about it.
There’s a bachelorette party. There’s a rogue gerbil in a strip club. There’s a cat named Pickles. There’s two idiots, who might, just might, find their way to becoming lovers. But they never stop being idiots. So welcome to Miami. Dive on in, the water’s fine.

I have read this fic three time now and I still thing that it is hands fucking dow THE BEST Manon/Elide fic that is out there. Arcis takes us out of the TOG world and throws us into modern day Miami. Manon and Elide have a past and, damn, if it’s not complicated. Not only is the writing PHENOMENAL (seriously, the style of writing in and of itself is so unique and refreshing), Arcis has done a character study of not only Manon/Elide, but the thirteen as a whole. She has taken minor characters and brought them to the forefront.
Also… In case you missed it in the fic… Arcis writes that they met in second grade… in 1992. That puts them being born in the 1984-1986 range. I was born in ‘84 (I’m 37) and it is SO fucking refreshing to see these characters older and at a different stage of life than they are in-canon. They still maintain that young and fun feel, but they’ve got some real-life adult shit under their belts and have had to work really fucking hard to get where they’re at.
TOG is epic. Hands down one of my favorite series. But… here’s my mantra when it comes to this particular pairing “Fuck Manon. Marry Manon. Kill Lorcan”. It’s been said before, and I’m going to say it again and again - SJM took the cowards way out when she paired Manon and Elide up with Dorian and Lorcan. She set these two up - the chemistry is written all over the pages. Then she went and made it heteronormative. END RANT.
Arcis has made this pairing come to life. In the real world. At a more realistic age. In a way I feel we can all relate to. I applaud you Arcis on a fic done right.

So I will admit that the stock market and general political/social stuff completely goes over my head sometimes (okay, most of the time). However… at it’s core I love the story. I love the character development and the relationship. Again, it can go a bit over your head at times.
