After the war, Deku still gets nightmares he can’t shake. One night he shows up at Bakugou’s door, half-awake and shaking. Katsuki doesn’t ask, just lets him in, makes him tea, gives him somewhere safe to sleep. They don’t say much, but it’s enough, quiet, warm, something like peace after everything.

Katsuki listens closer. And then notices the small inflections in his voice, how out of breath he sounds. Ragged, panting for air. Likes he’s decidedly run a marathon in his own fucking house. He wasn’t speaking quietly out of courtesy, but he was afraid to speak any louder. And then he realizes,
Somethings wrong.
He hurries out of his bed, already heading towards the front door.
“Izuku, what’s going on? Are you alright?”
...
Katsuki can almost hear the immediate regret that fills Izuku’s voice when he speaks up,
“Oh God, I'm so sorry!! Nothing's wrong, Kacchan I- ” then a beat “Okay fine, I was being an idiot. I had this stupid nightmare where you died again and I just called to make sure you’re okay. I’m so incredibly sorry for worrying you like that I don’t know why I did that, you think I'd be over this by now, it won’t happen again I swear- “
Katsuki stills.
“I’m coming over.”

Summary
Katsuki would ruin Deku. That was all he ever did before, how could things possibly be any different. So Katsuki would live with the pain of being in love with someone who didn't love him back if it meant that he wouldn't cause Deku any more pain.
He had put him through enough.
~To say their relationship was complicated would be an understatement. Kacchan was never a good friend to Deku and they both knew it and yet Deku fell in love with him anyway. And at some point Kacchan did too.
So you know how the stories go, right? Two people in love with each other are meant to be. They get together and live happily ever after. Except Kacchan and Deku were never meant to be. The love they have for each other are haunted by their past.
Deku may love and forgive Kacchan... but he hasn't healed and Kacchan hasn't changed.
They love each other but it just won't work- not unless they both grow and change. But the question becomes- will they be able to overcome their never meant to be?
