One of the best examples I think I've read of building on some property's canon by threading a few extra scenes and some introspection throughout it. It helps here that the scenes in question fit very well into spots the game left as open space, perhaps especially the one set immediately before the game's opening scene – which I've consistently thought was a time that's a little too vague in canon given all of the other things that were satisfyingly backfilled as you went along.
Anyway, I'm not necessarily going to say that this story added a lot of depth, because Nine Sols is honestly pretty appreciably deep all on its own, but I'd absolutely say that everything added felt fitting and interesting.

Bookmarker's Notes
Man, this author is really great at establishing one-off original settings and the casts to populate them. That's four I've read, and three I've had to recommend (with the fourth – White Stone, Red Blood, Blue Qi – also being fun, but ultimately being so short that I really just came out of it wishing it had more meat (and/or lesbian strangers-to-rivals-to-lovers romance (…and/or lesbian friends-to-lovers romance, given that there really were a lot of hooks for different possible romances for such a short thing!)))
Anyway, as for this piece, it was a standard isekai'd-as-an-otome-villainess premise that shifted narrative tracks immediately into a purer political intrigue and light action/fantasy piece, with solid characters in a surprisingly well-developed setting for something that's over so quickly. Edit: Oop, I apparently missed that this is a setting from a CYOA. Definitely stand by the author having established it beautifully, though.

Bookmarker's Notes
Right after recommending that last fic, I see the author has since posted this new one in a similar vein – an original piece built up around a foundation of an interesting combination of tropes and narrative styles. This time, it's xianxia + isekai (more as background) + pretend marriage… and the result is as funny as it is endearing. The characterization was a particular treat, as I think I enjoyed pretty much everyone presented here, even down to unnamed side characters who got a couple lines of dialogue in a fraction of a single scene.

A very charming little twist on the marriage-broken-off-with-the-prince-at-the-academy-party plot hook cliché, from the perspective of a relative everyman and with a side of bombastic legal drama. Fun stuff!

Bookmarker's Notes
A very satisfying read, and not only because of the titular Nazi-killing. It's reminiscent in its nature, to me, of Discreet's It Starts With One, only not a hard AU, and with focuses on anti-fascism over anti-capitalism and characterization over worldbuilding.
