"Ah, there you are, Harry, Miss Granger," Slughorn greeted, his plump face splitting into a grin. "I thought I’d find you here, hiding away from the festivities."
Harry’s gut twisted at the sight of Slughorn’s beaming smile. He didn’t like the way this was headed.
"I’ve come to deliver some important news about your Potions project," Slughorn continued, his voice dripping with condescension. "Seeing as you haven’t managed to find a partner yet, I’ve taken the liberty of pairing you up with someone myself."
Harry felt his stomach drop. He already knew what was coming.
"Mr. Potter," Slughorn said with a smile, oblivious to Harry’s growing dread. "I’ve paired you with Mr. Malfoy."
Harry’s breath hitched, his fingers curling into the wood of the table. Malfoy. The one person who seemed to have made it his life’s mission to make Harry’s every moment miserable.
