Summary
As they make their way inside, the cave echoes their footsteps like an empty contest hall-- spacious, but lonely and dark. They tread through the sand, down a worn-out natural staircase in the stone, and Maxie’s eye follows the high-water mark as the path takes him further and further below it.
(I'm old-fashioned so this is set in the Emerald timeline, but I also make mention of Maxie wearing glasses and Archie having a full beard, so... it's flexible. I think.)
