Phainon stares down at Mydei, fast asleep beside him in their shared bed, the dim light of the Entry Hour filtering through the curtains and brightening the edges of him in a warm glow. Like this, fast asleep, there is a sense of peace in his expression. A lightness that Phainon rarely sees when Mydei is awake, a freedom from the burden of responsibility and duty. His breathing comes out as soft, warm puffs of breath against the pillow, the only sign of wakefulness a discontented murmur when Phainon had extracted himself from Mydei’s embrace with great difficulty; it’s the siren’s call of sleep and the safety of Mydei’s arms, head to his chest and hearing his strong heartbeat beneath Phainon’s head, that tempts him to retreat back under the covers, but when he remembers what they agreed on, a flash of arousal chases away the haze of sleep.

"You're drunk," he croaked. "You're talking nonsense. I'm not an omega, Mydei, I can't..."
"You're not an omega," Mydei agreed, suddenly spinning him around and pushing him towards the massive black marble kitchen island. "You're better. You're strong. Your muscles are hard as stone. You won't break. But at the same time..."
Mydei, with a single motion, sat him on the edge of the table. The cold stone burned his buttocks, making Phainon instinctively lean forward, right into his friend's arms.
"...At the same time, you have a configuration made for pleasure. My pleasure."
"Mydei, stop," panic mingled with something thick and hot in his lower abdomen. "We're friends. We're, damn it, brothers in arms! You'll regret this in the morning."
"The only thing I'll regret," Mydei wedged himself between Phainon's spread knees, pushing them wider with authority, "is not doing this six months ago, when I first caught myself wondering how you'd look on my table."
A drunken bet leads to a situation where Phainon can't walk, Mydei is a thousand dollars poorer, and the penthouse has run out of lube.
