Yet another shift finished from one of her many stupid jobs, Penny sighed as she took off the uniform she was made to wear and lost her forced smile. She had half an hour between this shift and the next one… which was twenty minutes away on foot. There would be no time for her to rest, if she wanted to make it in time. Hopefully, once she arrived, she’d be able to lounge around a while before donning yet another nondescript outfit.
She wasn’t lucky to encounter any new tool either. Not like she always came across one, but they always brightened her day. More tools meant more money. More money meant coming closer to her dreams of studying theater and making a name for herself, which, in turn, meant leaving this town and spectral gig behind.

June Summers had never expected to settle down. It had always been the antithesis to her lifestyle. She'd cycled across the lands with her fiery companion for a good while. She'd promised him the world.
But a promise made was a promise broken. That was before she'd met Peter, and her life got turned over in a whirlwind of emotions and new expectations for the future. A new sense of responsibility overcame her, similar to her relationship to her protegee, but different in its own right. More personal than even the kid she'd come to care about and root for in her previous life. Being a drifter no longer had an appeal to her.

Ah, the beautiful sunshine of a Bayview summer day. Or that’s what his father would say. Good thing Max’s hat shielded him from the rays. Isaac next to him was squinting his eyes, and Johnny, at his other side, was shielding himself with his hand.
“Why do we even go to school in the summer, anyway?” Max said as they walked. That never made sense to him, but it was the first time he let himself say it out-loud. It was a wonder he managed to go through the entire last week without mentioning that once. He even forgot about it, what with all the Trying-Not-To-Die and such.
