Allie leans forward, a mischievous gleam in her eyes Tobin really, really doesn’t like. “So if I’m hearing this correctly (the “and I am” goes unsaid), you told your parents you had a serious girlfriend and now they expect you to invite her over for dinner?”
Allie pauses, and Tobin gives her a short nod, waiting for the bomb to drop (Allie doesn’t disappoint).
“And then you panicked because, let’s remember, you don’t actually have a girlfriend, and now your plan is to ask Christen, poor Christen, who’s dealt with your stupidity for the past decade and hasn’t realized how much of a loser you are, to be your fake girlfriend? Because you’re already madly in love with her anyway?”
A slip-up at a family dinner leads to Tobin needing a (fake) girlfriend. And of course, she turns to Christen for help.

Tobin Powell Heath is a self proclaimed free spirit. She doesn’t believe much in planning, or worrying, or doing anything with focus beyond soccer and writing. So she’s not overly concerned that the pretty girl across the room is going to ever mean anything, or concerned that her lips taste like strawberries or that her heart is suddenly pounding like crazy. She’s not concerned at all.

Swimming is what she needed, she can't stop thinking about what happened hours ago, neither can she stop blaming herself, memories of the last person she loved come to her mind, Tobin is in her sixth lap when she hears something, she doesn't look up, it's probably the wind she thinks, she continues, but she hears a voice, she stops to face them.
”Who are you and what are you doing in our pool?” it's an angry girls voice, probably the one who needs to protect, Tobin removes the water from her eyes and looks up, ready to respond when she sees the girl, what crosses her mind is she's beautiful, those eye, the moonlight just hitting her in-
”So? Are you telling me or do I need to call security to kick you out?” She was so lost in the girl's gaze that she doesn't answer, froze there, just when the girl turns and she can no longer see her face is when Tobin finds her voice, it comes rushed and maybe she sees the girl jump a little.
”I'm your new bodyguard” it's short but it's direct and to the point, the girl turns with a confused look Tobin swears looks like a puppy- while the girl digests the new info, Tobin gets the chance to properly check her...
”What?! You are what?!”

Now, a few years later and with a couple other people between them, it doesn't look like that's possible. Christen just wants to see if she can get another chance, but Tobin doesn't plan on making it that easy for her.
