Summary
Bucky loved the fall. The changing colors, the cooler weather, the higher overtime. But ever fall, Steve got sick. His skin turned cold, and Bucky would crawl into his bed with him - his warm skin countering the freezing layer of Steve's own. And then Steve got the serum, and Bucky got captured. Suddenly, it was Steve who loved the fall. But Bucky would still crawl into Steve's tent, but now to press his cold body against Steve's warmer one. Bucky loved the fall, then he loved the winter. Somewhere, unknown to him, he decided he loved Steve more than both.

Bucky's life was never easy. Providing for a family that the government deems unworthy to work for themselves, getting drafted at 18, being captured, or having Steve as a best friend were never things that set him up for a great life. And the things that followed didn't exactly get easier. In fact, he often felt like he was trapped in a cycle of one fight to the next. Whether that be for a paycheck, his body, his mind, or his independence entirely depends on the decade he finds himself shoved into.

It's freezing and wet and nothing is okay. Nothing's alright. 'Just close the windows,' they say. But numb is better than hurt. The cold air blows through the open windows.
