Aether's jaw dropped. Xiao's tone was harsh, but his eyes held the same warmth he used to feel from Lumine's amber eyes. "I-"
"It means you're in tremendous pain and you need someone to rely on right now," Xiao spelled it out for him. "You can… Rely on me."

“You have scars on your face and blood on your hands. I don’t care where you are or what you’re doing. If you need help, you can ask me. We are… friends. Isn’t that what friends do?”
Xiao did not understand the mortal fear of lightning. It was mundane, something so simple. His perspective of the world had changed entirely upon meeting Aether, so it wasn't unexpected that this opinion he had would change, too.

Summary
Aether had stayed in Wangshu Inn for another night, deciding that he could continue on his fetch quest the next day. In the midst of the night he broke out into a nightmare, muttering words in his sleep that stirred the attention of a certain adeptus. Xiao entered the room expecting to find enemies, but receiving a distressed traveler instead.

Summary
Aether was confused. It felt like his world was engulfed in a neverending nightmare. Everything felt wrong, terrifying, and lonely. The tears had stopped falling, but his vision never got better after he watched his other half disappear through that portal. Without her Aether felt like he was cracking, unravelling, and even if he tried to rebuild and restring himself a hundred times over it would never be enough. All he wanted was to run until his feet bled and his lungs tore open; leave his rotting body for mother nature to take somewhere even the Abyss wouldn't reach him. But fate had other plans.
Who knew fate had a jade spear?
