    Summary

Immortality gets boring when you shut yourself away from the world for the sake of no longer having to deal with grief. Mel's been stuck like that for so long she thinks she's found contentment in the solitude, at least until the classics professor at a local university and her psuedo-grandson/manager of her bookstore turn her solitude inside out.

With strange magical issues from a bygone era cropping up in the neighborhood, what's a girl to do but let herself get drawn into the chaos of the modern world again? If only she hadn't buried most of her emotions centuries prior- she might've recognized the signs regarding a certain professor before it was too late. Now she's been force-adopted into the first family she's had in ages, Mel must find a way to actually keep them.

This started as When You Have Magic with the vin scratched out and slowly turned into it's own thing as worldbuilding progressed. It's still loosely based on how Aizawa and Hizashi would've met, but without the fighting, cops/heroes, and supervillain shenanigans. Instead we've got idiots who don't even realize they're in love, fake dating, magic, and cats all set against the backdrop of the neighborhood magical bookstore!

“Hey bud, can you tell me what your quirk does?”

As Izuku asked his question, he let go of the kid. Instantly, there was another flash of light, and Izuku… well… changed?

He had been wearing a black hoodie that was at least two sizes too big along with blue jeans and black boots. But now he was wearing a neon blue t-shirt with the English word “Toothpaste” on the front, the UA gym pants, and red shoes. Those weren’t the only differences, though. Izuku was fairly muscular, especially on his back and arms, but now he appeared as though he’d never seen the inside of a gym.

What could have happened to him?

“Um. Where am I?” Izuku(?) asked, blinking and looking around. “Oh, hey Denki! Do you know where I am?”

    Summary

The out of place sound of a camera shutter broke the silence, drawing Shouta’s attention.

He swung his head around to the other side- anything else would’ve dislodged Hizashi, which was as illegal as waking up Eri would’ve been- to see Henry with his phone. The damn thing had figured out how to operate the camera and was taking photos not only of the child, but of the two of them inextricably tangled around each other in the chair.

    What a fucking traitor.

“I didn’t give you sentience so you could betray me like this.” He muttered quietly. Henry remained unrepentant, pointedly taking another photo of Shouta’s tired, displeased glare. They both knew Shouta hadn’t purposefully given Henry sentience at all, it was just a byproduct of how much time the scarf had spent about magic. The ancient sorcerer was honestly terrified of the implications that had for magic in general, although it potentially shed a bit of light on just how Alaric managed to develop quirks. “You’d tell me if you reached actual person-hood, right?”

The scarf just sat the phone back on the arm of the lazy boy and patted Shouta’s hand with one of it’s tasseled ends.
