Angel smirks. It’s mischievous, adorable, sharp; he bites his lower lip and bats his eyelashes, letting out a little gasp, playing up the fake innocence in his big eyes.
“You left me hanging on the terrace that night, remember, Angie?” Val purrs into Angel’s ear. “Made me cum in my pants and ditched me. That was a bitch move.”
“You liked it,” Angel turns his head to smirk at Val, that defiant glint in his eye again. Val could kiss him.

“You look like shit,” Val says with a monotone voice, sharp as a razor blade. “Did you have fun with Travis?”
It doesn’t escape Angel that this is the first time Val has actually called the guy by his name. Still, he ignores his heart pounding so loud and hard in his throat that he could choke on it, and he puts on a casual smile to match Val’s stoic facade.
“You know I did. That’s why I showed you.”
“I’m not in the mood for your fucking games, Angel.” Now, Val's voice is so loud and sudden that Angel actually jolts back.
“I ain’t playin’ any games,” he lies through his teeth, lightheaded with a rush of adrenaline. “I had planned the night for weeks. Did ya want me to sit on my ass at home doin’ nothing cuz ya fuckin’ ditched me?”

He doesn't remember the conversation he had with this fucker in the taxi, but he remembers exactly what he heard that afternoon at the hotel and how it felt like the pressure of a single question made him shatter. “You haven’t been out at all in almost two weeks! That’s great, Angel! Did you quit? Oh, you can finally focus on your redemption! You can do it for good this time!”
There was hope in the words but they went straight through his chest like spears. They didn’t know. He’d been too caught up in his shame and his craving to even start explaining the depths of the shithole he was stuck in. How could he put it into words without wanting to crawl out of his skin?
